COURSE DESCRIPTION

Physical science sits at the heart of the energy sector. This course will introduce you to the physical world that surrounds you, developing your skills, knowledge and application of chemistry, environmental science and physics.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR

The Applied Science Level 3 Extended Diploma study programme will give you experience, skills & knowledge and a recognised qualification which holds to potential to open doors to many fantastic and exciting opportunities. Typically, this course will suit those looking to progress onto apprenticeships including degree apprenticeship, and/or access to Higher Education.

Successful completion of this study programme you will be on the road to becoming a highly skilled scientist able to work within a variety of disciplines within the energy sector. The skills and knowledge acquired are also transferable into the broader scientific sectors.

This programme is delivered in the National College for Nuclear (southern hub) which has been developed with industry partners, educational partners and government to deliver tomorrow’s nuclear workforce.

The new National College for Nuclear (southern hub) truly has dedicated state-of-the-art facilities including a reactor simulator, and virtual reality training environment which will provide tomorrow’s scientists with high-tech, specialist training to support the nuclear industry.

Working with our industrial partners such as EDF Energy ensures the training and education provides a unique world class experience that develops the skills needed in this high profile, technical and demanding sector.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need five GCSEs in the A* – C or 9 – 4 range, including Maths (higher) or an appropriate Level 2 qualification with an overall Merit, which includes Maths and Science.

WHAT ARE THE ASSESSMENT METHODS

You will be assessed in a number of different ways, but the majority of the subjects are internally assessed through assignment work graded at pass, merit and distinction. Some of the units are externally assessed using different methods, either through time constrained exams or external controlled assessments.
