Lakes College

Lakes College serves the community of west Cumbria, providing a wide range of vocational provision.

The college has an ultra-modern campus which offers an exciting variety of facilities and experiences. It has a strong track record in delivering high-quality training, including dozens of apprenticeship programmes and technical skills courses. The college caters for further and higher education students along with adult skills and apprentices.

Known as a vibrant and friendly place to study, Lakes College ensures the community spirit becomes part of its ethos.

The University of Cumbria

The University of Cumbria has well developed expertise, capacity and capability to work within a nuclear setting, particularly in Project and Programme Management, Management and Leadership, Industrial Leadership, Collaborative Working and Behavioural Change, and is currently developing other relevant areas such as Supply Chain, Logistics and Procurement, Security and Resilience, Digital Skills and Advanced Manufacturing.

A founder member of the National College for Nuclear (NcFN) the university supports the education and training requirements of a number of nuclear and nuclear supply chain employers and collaborates with partners around the world and across many sectors.
Enriching the lives of tomorrow’s world changers through a firm focus on its people, places and partnerships, University of Cumbria’s quality education is ranked in the top 10 of universities worldwide according to the only global performance tables assessing universities’ impact against the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020).

The university had previously developed a strong relationship with Nuclear employers working with them on skills and workforce development plans, particularly in Project Management, Leadership and ‘People Skills’ and ‘Behaviours’.

Bridgwater & Taunton College

Bridgwater & Taunton College is located in Somerset, in the heart of South West England, in a strategic position that offers easy access to the rest of the UK via the M5, the rail network, and Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter airports. The College has campuses in Bridgwater, Taunton and Cannington.

The College has an excellent reputation regionally, nationally and internationally as a highly successful provider of education and training, and is one of the best resourced colleges in the UK. With a strong a track record of quality and innovation in responding quickly and effectively to industry demand, and its strong stakeholder partnerships, over the years BTC has attracted substantial private investment in state-of-the-art, industry-led facilities for technical and professional skills training.

The University of Bristol

Bristol is one of the most popular and successful universities in the UK, ranked in the world’s top 60 in the QS World University Rankings 2021. The research tackles some of the world’s most pressing issues in areas as diverse as infection and immunity, human rights, climate change, and cryptography and information security. It is involved in numerous international research collaborations and integrate practical experience in the curriculum, so that students work on real-life projects in partnership with business, government and community sectors.

The University is home to the South West Nuclear Hub and a partner with the University of Oxford in the Bristol-Oxford Nuclear Research Centre, alliances that bring together academia, industry and other public sector organisations to support the development and deployment of nuclear energy technologies from fission to fusion.

EDF

EDF is the UK’s largest producer of low carbon electricity. We operate low carbon nuclear power stations and are building the first of a new generation of nuclear plants. We also have a large and growing portfolio of renewable generation, including onshore and offshore wind, as well as coal and gas stations and energy storage. We have around five million electricity and gas customer accounts, including residential and business users. EDF is committed to building a smarter energy future that will support delivery of net zero carbon emissions, including through digital innovations and new customer offerings that encourage the transition to low carbon electric transport and heating.

Sellafield Ltd

Sellafield Ltd is responsible for the safe and secure operation and clean-up of the Sellafield nuclear site.

Its mission is of national importance from cleaning-up the country’s highest nuclear risks and hazards, to safeguarding nuclear fuel, materials and waste.

Its purpose is to keep Sellafield safe and secure, and cleaning-up the site to a defined end state.
Sellafield is transforming. It is developing a high-performance, value-led organisation that reduces high hazard faster, costs the taxpayer less, and responds more quickly to potential funding changes. At the same time, they are looking for ways to maximise the socio-economic benefit from its funding and supply chain spend hence why they are key supporters of the NCfN.
